MC session
From this process we acquire data that will reconstruct body motions excluding finger movements and facial expression changes, which are usually recorded separately and added later.
According to our clients needs, our system can record in various dimensions. Typically we use:
- 6 x 7 x 2.5 m - for generic actions
- 8 x 6 x 2.3 m - ellipse for walking and running shots.
- 5 x 5 x 4 m - providing a larger vertical shot for jumping on a springboard, and aerial activities
- 4 x 4 x 3 m - for easy recording of multiple characters at once.
- It is possible to focus more cameras on one area to create a “sweetspot” where things like facial MoCap are possible in the same shot.
To reposition the cameras requires about 4 hours of intense work. To make it easier on and quicker for our clients we ask that they send the information on the movements they plan on recording in advance, this way we can prepare the cameras before they arrive.
We can record multiple characters at once, interacting with each other. However, this prevents us from seeing each individual in their entirety. For better quality our recommendation is to record no more than 2 characters at once, 3 characters is our limit.
We have successfully recorded:
- walking, running and intense sprinting
- dancing
- jumping
- combat sequences; fencing, fighting
- ladder climbing
- free falls, deaths
- acrobatic jumps
- and more
The way it works is simple. We give the actor a special suit made from stretch cloth. Markers are then attached using velcro to the areas we want to capture. Using this suit is essential, it prevents the markers from moving, and thus makes our data more accurate.
This system has been used countless times by others as well as ourselves, which has given us vast experience you can depend on.
